The garden has been called the Japanese Garden and the Shade Garden. This area was part of the nursery's display gardens. At one time a small rock garden was here. A small pond, arch bridge and trees from Japan and Asia
were featured here. The California Nursery sold a variety of ornamental
plants and were frequently the first and only place to get a rare
specimen.
